posted by Som Offor.

– The residents of Seme Border, a settlement on the Nigerian border with Benin, staged a protest today, Monday, February 8, 2016.
– The people opposed the increasing tariffs and corrupt practices allegedly thriving in the area.
– The protesters called for the local officials, D.C. Mulima and Senior Counsil Sidi Alli, to be held responsible.

Reportedly, the people of Seme Border took to the streets today, brandishing placards, in order to voice protest against the surging tariffs and the allegedly corrupt activity of the local authorities, D.C. Mulima and Senior Counsil Sidi Alli.

In the words of the protesters, the tariffs had been increasing despite the high naira-to-CFA franc (editor’s note: the official currency of Benin) exchange rate – N510 for 1000 francs. At the same time, the corrupt officers at the multiple checkpoints along the Seme-Badagry expressway used to extort agents and pave way for smugglers.
