SSANU To Buhari: Extend Anti-Corruption Probe To 1999

posted by Som Offor.

SSANUThe Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to extend his probe of corrupt public office holders to the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
SSANU President, Mr. Samson Ugwoke, asked the president not to spare anybody involved in the looting of the country’s resources.
While declaring the association’s support for the anti-corruption war, Mr. Ugwoke also asked the president to avoid being selective in the ongoing probe.
He spoke at a meeting of the National Executive Council and pre-National Delegates’ Conference of SSANU in Jos, Plateau State, on Friday.
President Buhari has limited his ongoing probe to the immediate past administration of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan but the SSANU boss urged him to ensure that those responsible for looting since 1999 were brought to book.
Ugwoke said oil wells were shared among individuals who had become richer than the country, adding that the oil wells were distributed to a privileged few by virtue of the political offices they occupied and not because of their capacities.
He said, “The present administration seems to be pursuing an anti-corruption war. Corruption has killed this country. We have heard of billions and trillions of Naira being looted by officials of government and the money stashed away abroad, not even in our country.
“They use Nigerian money to grow and improve the economies of other countries, leaving us in poverty. SSANU supports the fight against corruption but with a caveat that the President should pursue whoever has stolen our money to return it to the nation’s coffers.
“The probe of the looters should not be selective; it should be total; that is the stand of SSANU. It should be extended to 1999 so that those who have killed this country since 1999 would be brought to book”.

Kim Kardashian’s second pregnancy might be her last as she revealed that doctors have told her she might have to have her uterus removed.
“… [Doctors] think I’ll have placenta accreta again, so if the placenta grows a little bit deeper [into the uterine wall] than it did last time, then they are prepared to have my uterus removed, which is a little scary for me,” Kim told C Magazine.
With placenta accreta, the placenta or part of the placenta does not completely detach from the uterus after a woman gives birth, potentially causing severe blood loss, theNew York Post reports.

Amaechi Disowns Report Expressing Disappointment In Buhari Over SGF Snub

posted by Som Offor.

Rotimi AmaechiThe immediate past governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has disowned a report alleging that he expressed disappointment in President Muhammadu Buhari for not appointing him Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF).
The president appointed Babachir David Lawal from Adamawa State as the new SGF on Thursday, ending speculations that the position had been reserved for either of Amaechi or former national chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu.
But the ex-Rivers governor insisted he never spoke to any media organization and described the story published by an online blog as a tissue of lies, ridiculous and meaningless.
In a statement released by his media office, Amaechi said he holds the media in high esteem but may soon be forced to take action against those who bring the profession of journalism to disrepute by their deliberate falsehood and malicious reports.
The statement reads in full: “The attention of former governor of Rivers State Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has been drawn to a story with the caption ‘SGF: Buhari Disappointed Me – Amaechi’, published by a certain Savinggracereporters.com.
“The story which is ridiculous as it is meaningless is a figment of the writer’s imagination and sadly flouts all the basic rules of journalism biz: fairness, accuracy and balance. This story like so many others like it is a tissue of lies and fit only for the trash-can.
“Since after leaving office and with the successful delivery of the change agenda to Nigerians, former Governor Amaechi has been enjoying a well-deserved rest. He hasn’t found any need to grant any interviews to any journalist or blogger and so couldn’t have spoken to savinggracereporters.
“Rt. Hon Amaechi holds the media in high esteem but may soon be forced to take action against those who bring the profession of journalism to disrepute by their deliberate falsehood and malicious reports.
“For the sake of decency and ethical conduct, Rt. Hon. Amaechi therefore demands that the said savinggracereporters immediately retract the mischief they have on their website and apologize to their readers for their unprofessional conduct.
“In this era of reformation and restoration, it is important that everyone embraces propriety and decorous conduct to enable every segment of our country join the change train”.

The suspect, a native of Kogi State, was arrested by the DSS in liaison with Aviation Security while controlling a spy network mounted by the Boko Haram terrorists.
On interrogation, Abdulrahman disclosed that he infiltrated the airport with the assistance of a certain Dauda Sadiq (Peter), whose is presently at large.
A statement signed by Tony Opuiyo of the DSS quoted the suspect as revealing that he was directed by Sadiq to spy on the installation and pass to him information in respect of travelers’ movement, including passenger screening, boarding procedures and other processes in the departure and arrival halls.
According to the statement, “With this knowledge, the Service is working closely with major Aviation stakeholders, especially the Aviation Security Department to forestall any possible attack and to ensure adequate security at the airports.
“This is aside other measures which have been put in place to ensure protection of lives and property across the country”.
Opuiyo reminded members of the public to remain vigilant and patriotic by being security conscious at all times.
While calling on the public to report all issues and persons of suspicion to the nearest security agency, the DSS further enjoined them to assist with information that could be useful in stamping out insecurity with a view to making Nigeria safe for all.

Wolfsburg Can Survive Without De Bruyne – Hecking

de bruyne
Dieter Hecking was fast to point out that Wolfsburg don’t need De Bruyne to help in their Bundesliga title chase, as the Belgian looks to join City.
The Belgium international is poised for a move back to the premier league, as he prepares to leave Wolfsburg for City.
Wolfsburg are also set to lose Ivan Perisic to Inter and despite the absence of both players, Hecking’s men recorded an emphatic 3-0 win over Schalke.
Hecking is proud and confident his men can survive without both players.
“I know that I can trust my team,” Hecking said. “They don’t have to prove anything.
“It’s always possible that both De Bruyne and Perisic get injured. Are we supposed to lose without them? This is again a question that answers itself.
“This team is full of professionals and they want to win games, even when one or two players are missing. So they didn’t have to make a statement.
“They played better than last week against Koln even though two players were missing, who aren’t even gone yet. Both are still part of the team, they were with the team and congratulated the players for a great game.
“I am happy that the team won and that we had a great performance without these two players.”

According to witness testimony, the embassy said two children had died and four others were missing. The UN says about 2,400 migrants have died trying to cross the Mediterranean to Europe so far this year.

Buhari Has Not Been Fair To The South East But Let’s Wait For Ministerial Appointments Before We Cry – Ikedife

posted by Som Offor.

Dr. Dozie Ikedife
Dr. Dozie Ikedife
President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr Dozie Ikedife has said President Muhammadu Buhari has not been fair to the South-East in his appointments so far. His reaction came following yesterday’s appointments by the president which consist mostly northerners.
However, he urged the people to wait until the appointment of ministers before crying over exclusion.
According to Ikedife, if it were to be a matter of competence, Ndigbo can even provide 80 percent of Buhari’s cabinet.
“It is clear to everybody that so far, Ndigbo have not got a fair share of the appointments which Buhari has made so far. However, let us not be too hasty as he has still many appointments to make,” he said.
In his own reaction, former governor of Anambra State, Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife, who spoke from the United States told The Nation that he was short of words. “I don’t understand what is happening and the motivation for what is happening,” he said.
Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Chief Yinka Odumakin on his part noted that the latest appointments followed the same pattern of previous ones, most which came from a particular section of the country. He said that the appointment reflects the 97 and five percent ration mindset of the President in terms of votes he garnered during the election.
“When he visited the United States, he made it clear that those who gave him 97 per cent votes cannot have the same thing with those who gave him five per cent votes. I do not think it is the best thing considering the mood of the nation now. I think the earlier he realized that, the better for the country. He should realize that inclusivity brings stability,” Odumakin said.

Photos: 70 decomposed bodies of migrants found in a meat truck in Austria

posted by Som Offor.

In another indication of the worsening migrant crisis in Europe, an abandoned meat truck full of 70 bodies of migrants was found on the side of a highway in eastern Austria on Thursday morning Aug. 27. The truck was found on a motorway near the borders with Slovakia and Hungary by an Austrian patrol with fluids from the decomposing bodies seeping from its back.

The refrigerated truck had Hungarian number plates and the driver was nowhere to be seen. According to Associated Press, the truck was emblazoned with the logo of a Slovakian chicken processing company, Hyza, whose parent company, Agrofert Holding , said the truck was sold in 2014.
"One can maybe assume that the deaths occurred one-and-a-half to two days ago,”  Hans Peter Doskozil, police chief in the province of Burgenland, told a news conference, adding that "many things" indicated the migrants were already dead when the truck crossed the border.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said at a summit on the West Balkans in Vienna:
"We are of course all shaken by the appalling news. This reminds us that we must tackle quickly the issue of immigration and in a European spirit that means in a spirit of solidarity – and find solutions."
According to local media, the migrants died of suffocation after being trapped in the truck's trailer. Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched to find the driver who is suspected of smuggling the dead refugees into the country.
