Robbers kill former military administrator's daughter in Delta State over sum of £760

ARMED Robbers have murdered the daughter of the
former military administrator of Plateau and Kano
State Brigadier Dominic Oneya and stolen
N200,000 (£760) from her in what appears to a
callous attempt to rob her.
Franca Oneya gunned down in cold blood along Ovie
Palace Road in Effurun, Delta State when she was
returning from the bank where she had gone to
withdraw money. Her murder led to pandemonium in
Effurun, the administrative headquarters of Uvwie
Local Government Area of Delta State as about five
gunmen laid siege to the town.
Over the last month, there have been worries over the
dwindling security situation in Warri and environs
and this murder of the mother-of-four has
heightened fears. She was waylaid just few
kilometres from her late father's house, after which
the assailant bolted away with the cash.
One eyewitness said: "The incident happened at
about 10.40am. I saw residents and passersby
scrambling for safety after multiple gunshots were
fired into the air.
"By the time the robbers were done, a pretty young
lady lay in a pool of blood on the driver's seat. A
neighbour, with whom we all rushed to the scene of
the incident identified the victim as the daughter of a
notable politician in the state."
Effurun is in the heart of Nigeria's oil industry and is
the only community in the Niger Delta with a Federal
University of Petroleum Resource. There is also a
Petroleum Training Institute in the town.
