Borno Lifts Three Day Restriction On Vehicular Movement

soldiers checkpointThe three-day curfew and restriction of vehicles imposed in Maiduguri and environs by the Borno State Government, which was meant to stem any breach of security during the Eid-el-Fitri celebrations, has been lifted.
Vehicular restriction was put in place in the state between Friday and Sunday morning.
The announcement to relax the restriction of vehicles was made by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Zannah Mustapha, on Sunday on the state radio.
The deputy governor said the people should not be compelled to be locked up in their homes and communities for a longer time.
He, however, explained that the three-day curfew and vehicle restrictions were to protect people’s lives and property during the Sallah celebration.
This, he said, had informed him to direct the military and other security agencies on the Maiduguri roads and streets to reopen them for motorists and residents as from Sunday morning.
Mustapha also directed the re-opening of all closed markets, motor parks, hospitals and schools in the metropolis.
He said, “With the lifting of this curfew and vehicle restriction, residents can, as from today (Sunday) move and carry out their daily social and economic activities from 6am to 9.30pm daily”.

Iker Casillas’ agent, Santos Marquez is convinced that Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to sell his image rights to a company owned by Valencia president, is a sign that the Portuguese is looking for a way out.
Ronaldo still has a contract till 2018 but raised eyebrows when he announced on June 29 his decision to sign a deal with Mint Media, a company owned by Valencia president Peter Lim.
Marquez believes this decision is because the forward is not satisfied with life under Florentino Perez and planning his exit.
“One day [Perez] will need to explain why Cristiano works for another company outside of Real Madrid,” the agent told AS.
“Imagine Cristiano generating €40 million elsewhere and giving it to Peter Lim, Valencia’s owner. It ends up in Valencia’s coffers and that’s deplorable…
“Will anyone speak out and ask Florentino why Cristiano has sold his image rights to Peter Lim?
“That’s not normal; it suggests that Cristiano is planning to leave.”

Lamido Apologizes To Sons Over Detention

Sule-lamido
Former Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido is begging his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha, for forgiveness over their prison experience. He claimed total responsibility for their ordeal in the hands of the law.
Speaking with Voice of America Hausa service in an interview, shortly after his return from Abuja, Lamido described his arrest as the beginning of restoration of confidence in political leadership in Nigeria.
He recalled that he had been incarcerated in the past for holding opposing political views. He declared that he would never be discouraged in politics.
“In the process to improve democracy, there would be some mistakes. I am not a perfect human being; I have my own shortcomings. And in my own case, I’m outspoken, which perhaps explained why people found me too offensive and irritating,” Lamido said.
The former Foreign Affairs Minister explained that his pains weren’t his detention, but his sons who were innocent but had to suffer simply because their father served as a governor.
Lamido admitted he caused their detention and as such they should forgive him and be patient with the situation they found themselves.

Treasury Will Be Prudently And Transparently Managed – AGF

Ahmed IdrisThe Accountant General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, has vowed that the nation’s treasury under his watch would be prudently and transparently managed.
The AGF made the pledge when members of the Civil Society of Nigeria, an Umbrella body representing over 25 civil society organizations in Nigeria, visited him at the Treasury House to congratulate him on his appointment as the new AGF.
Mr. Idris called on the CSOs in the country to join hands with the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in its campaign to fight corruption at all levels of governance by reporting any individual or organizations engaged in corrupt practices.
A statement from the AGF office on Sunday quoted Idris to have said that as civil societies, they should act as whistle blowers by reporting all forms of corrupt practices witnessed in the system.
This, he stressed, should be done objectively without fear or favour.
He said, “No society will develop if it indulges in any form of corruption and as a nation, if we do not imbibe the culture of good governance, transparency, accountability and strict compliance to rules and regulation stipulated in the relevant documents guiding the nation, we cannot reach our destination as a nation”.
The AGF said his resolve to ensure prudency and transparency in the management of the nation’s treasury is to ensure that the change promised by President Buhari is positively reflected in the lives of Nigerians.
Earlier, the president of the group, Mr. Femi Osabinu, pledged the support of the association in ensuring that the nation’s finances are efficiently managed.

Our situation in Nigeria...so sad!

Henry: Arsenal Need Four More Players To Challenge Chelsea

henry
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry feels Arsenal are not at that stage where they can challenge Chelsea for the EPL title.
Despite a strong finish to the season, Arsenal finished at third and twelve points behind title holders, Chelsea.
Even though Wenger completed the signing of Cech from the Blues, Henry believes four more players are needed.
“That team, I think, has great mentality, top-quality players and match-winners. I still think they need four players to get closer to Chelsea,” he told Sky Sports.
“I compare it to my generation. I knew, for example, when I first arrived at Arsenal that if I was not performing after an hour, Dennis Bergkamp was on the bench sometimes or Kanu or Sylvain Wiltord or Davor Suker. Whoever it was, I knew I had an hour to perform.”
Rumour has it that the Gunners are prepared to be patient in their pursuit of Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema with Wenger refusing to rule out a move, and Henry feels another forward is important.
“Olivier Giroud alone there as a natural-born striker, it is difficult, because they say when he does not score, it is very difficult,” he added.
“Hopefully Theo Walcott could be the answer. You have a guy who you did not think was going to play as a striker, although he has been the talk of the town for a little while, him playing as a striker.
“You know some people still question Arsene Wenger, but I still think that Arsene has the right attitude and fire; the fire in his belly to try to make sure that team can win another title.”

Fayose To Buhari: “Keep Boko Haram Under House Arrest, Not Opposition Party Members”

Ayo Fayose-BuhariGovernor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has condemned the recent invasion and sealing-off of the Abuja and Sokoto residences of the immediate past National Security Adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) by men of the Department of State Services (DSS), saying; “persecution of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwarts and others perceived as opposed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Federal Government is an ominous sign of imminent return of dictatorship and draconian rule in Nigeria”.
Fayose, who said he still believed that the invasion of Dasuki’s homes may not have the backing of President Muhammadu Buhari, said; “if this is being done by some people to please the president, he should check the excesses of those behind it and call them to other because overzealousness by those that are close to the president is inimical to the image of the government”.
A statement issued in Ado-Ekiti by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka on Friday, Governor Fayose said he was sad that democracy is already being put on trial, less than two months that President Buhari assumed office, adding that; “Rather than invading homes of Nigerians and putting people under house arrest, the government should invade Boko Haram territories and arrest the insurgents”.
Fayose, who also condemned the persecution of Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, said; “the desperate plot to remove Senator Ekweremadu from office is dangerous to democratic rule in Nigeria because there is no portion of the Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution that made positions of Senate President and Deputy Senate President the exclusive rights of the political party with highest number of senators”.
He said; “President Buhari should rather keep Boko Haram under house arrest, not opposition party members. Those heavily armed security men that invaded Col. Dasuki’s Abuja and Sokoto homes should have been put to a better use by sending them to the Boko Haram ravaged North Eastern part of Nigeria.
“The president should keep the rising exchange rates of Dollar, Pound Sterling, Euro and other foreign currencies under house arrest. He should pay attention to governance, be guided by the rule of law and be for everyone and for nobody as he promised when he was sworn into office”.
While urging President Buhari to be magnanimous in victory by acting like a leader and father of all Nigerians, Fayose advised him against seeing his return to power as an opportunity to extract his pound of flesh from those perceived to have wronged him in the past.
The governor asked; “Was there any invitation by the DSS to Col. Dasuki that he refused to honour? Isn’t it worrisome that in this democratic age, security agents could in a commando-like invade the house of a former NSA to carry out his arrest when there is no record that he was invited and he refused to honour the invitation, or that he resisted arrest?
“Could Col. Dasuki’s present ordeal be as a result of his advice that the presidential election be postponed?
“Is this not an indication of an impending clampdown on PDP members and other Nigerians perceived not to be on the same page with the President Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government?
“We in the PDP supported our party during the presidential election like every other loyal party members should do, should this display of support for our party and its candidate now warrant persecution by the Federal Government?
“If Col. Dasuki actually committed any offence to warrant his arrest and questioning by the DSS or any of the country’s security agencies, shouldn’t warrant of arrest have been issued against him? Shouldn’t he have been invited by the DSS instead of invading his houses and sealing them off in a commando-liked manner?
“Nigerians must therefore rise against this emerging dictatorship and save the country’s democracy from imminent collapse because today, it is Col. Dasuki, tomorrow it can be any other person”.
