burnt in Nassarawa accident – An auto accident in Nassarawa state on
Sunday, January 24th 2016, has left at least 4 people dead, including a
woman and her kids. According to blogger Linda Ikeji, the accident happened at Garaku before Mandara, along the Abuja-Akangwa road in the Northern state.
Two
Toyota vehicles were involved in the accident, which happened after
both vehicles reportedly collided with each other head on.
The collision had caused an immediate explosion, with all the passengers being burnt to death. See the photos below. 4 burnt in Nassarawa accident

been brought to National Hospital, Abuja having sustained severe head
injuries from accidents; they are currently receiving treatment at the
National Hospital, Abuja. The Management is appealing to any member of the public
whose relation has not been seen, to please come to the Trauma Centre,
National Hospital, Abuja for identification and further necessary
action.

Following the ongoing Sallah celebrations,
the Lagos state government has suspended the monthly environmental
sanitation exercise which was supposed to be on Saturday, September 26.
The monthly exercise which restricts human and vehicular movements
was suspended by the government to ease free movement of Muslim
faithfuls and others who would travel to various destinations for the
Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
Announcing the government’s decision yesterday, September 23, the
permanent secretary, Lagos state ministry of environment, Oluwatoyin
Onisarotu, advised Lagosians to celebrate in moderation.
He stated that residents of the state should use the opportunity of
the festive period to clean their environment and properly bag their
wastes to allow for easy collection and disposal to designated dumpsites
by government agents and accredited operators.
He said: “All citizens of Lagos State are urged to join the
government’s crusade to attain a cleaner, healthier and a more
sustainable environment, capable of promoting economic growth and the
well-being of the entire citizenry.” “The rainy season is not yet over; there could still cases of
flooding in the metropolis. The state has been free from flooding
because of the abatement measures taken by the government.”
More
facts have started gathering momentum to the possible resignation of
the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, as he was
reported already getting tired of the approach of President Muhammadu
Buhari to fiscal and monetary issues.
A source divulged to Daily Post on Wednesday that: “There
are possibilities of Emefiele leaving the post because of the state of
the economy. But the one that unsettles him the most is an order by the
president to change the colour of Naira notes.”
Buhari’s directive is a reminder of his anti-corruption measures as military Head of State between 1884 and 1985. ‘Buharinomics’, as called, was stringently implemented to revive the slumbering banking industry and curb local currency hoarding.

ordered that the colour of the Naira notes be changed, forcing all
holders of old notes to exchange them at banks within a limited period.
It
was learnt that Emefiele, reluctant to implement Buhari’s instruction,
almost tendered his resignation in the past few days but for the
persuasion of some prominent Nigerians, including two Bank Chairmen.
Information
gathered further shows that part of Emefiele’s fears was his disclosure
at the CBN Monetary Policy Committee meeting that Nigeria’s economy
could slip into recession within months.
But if it so happens that
Emefiele quits the CBN, his replacement may be picked from one of the
few names being touted as likely successor. He is Fola Adeola, pioneer Managing Director and current Chairman of Guaranty Trust Bank.
Nigeria’s president may yet have the Ohaneze
Ndi Igbos to parley with after the Pan-Igbo group revealed that it does
not regret voting en masse for former president, Goodluck Jonathan at
the last presidential election.
During a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday to kick-start the
2015 Igbo Day celebration, the group’s president in the Federal Capital
Territory, Mazi Odozi Elijah Nwodozi, informed that the igbos in the
country remain united and all voted their conscience rather than for
gains.
Ohaneze do not regret voting against President Muhammadu Buhari
The Igbos had been criticised by many following their massive votes
for Jonathan during the last presidential election in the country,
but The Guardian reports that although their candidate lost out in the
election, they can still hold their heads up and say they do regret
voting against Nigeria’s current leader.
According to Nwodozi: “In the 2015 elections, Ndigbos made a
clear choice; it was decisive. We made the best choice, as known to us.
So, we have no regrets — whether, or not, we are being punished for that
choice. We are in a democracy. The president is the president of all,
irrespective of how any region voted. “This simply shows character, that if an Igbo man decides to
support you, he does so no matter the consequence. That shows we are
unwaivered.”
While also stating that they have observed how the government of the
day has sidelined the Ndigbos with the appointments made so far, they
remain less concerned.
He added: “Ndigbos are strong people. We are like a phoenix; we
always rise from our ashes. We cannot be broken as a people. We will
surely get to the promised land.
“Ndigbos, without doubt, made a bold statement through the ballot
box on March 28, 2015.We achieved three major milestones, namely, a
true reconciliation with our brothers in the old eastern region — an
exhibition of the readiness of Ndigbos to allow minority ethnic group
play active roles in the leadership of the nation. “It was also a major achievement in that it showed unity of
purpose. And the voting pattern also debunked the age long insinuation
that Igbos have no unified voice.”

Nigerian leader Muhammadu Buhari has visited his native state Katsina to prayer at Eid el-Kabir.
The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari and her children, on
Thursday observed the Eid el-Kabir prayers at the An-Nur Mosque in
Abuja.
However, the tragedy marred this bright day as at least 453 pilgrims
were killed and 719 others were injured today in a stampede at Mina,
outside the Muslim holy city of Mecca, in Saudi Arabia.
Ralph Uwazuruike, the leader of the Movement
for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), has
announced that the group’s activities can never be banned because it has
the backing of United Nations (UN) charter on indigenous people’s right
to self-determination.

The Sun reports that Uwazurike made a statement on Wednesday,
September 23, through the deputy national director for Information, Mazi
Chris Mocha.
Reacting to the purported ban on MASSOB activities in Anambra state
by Hosea Karma, the commissioner of police, Uwazuruike advised him to
study the UN Charter, Article I to II on indigenous people’s rights. “The UN General Assembly had on Thursday, September 13, 2007,
whilst Uwauruike was in detention in Kefi prison in Nassarawa state,
adopted a resolution that called for the recognition of the world’s 370
million people’s rights to self-determination and control over their
lands and resources.
“There comes a time, when people get tired of being trampled over
by the iron feet of oppression as is the case in Nigeria. The only
option for such indigenous people would be to take their destiny into
their own hands,” the statement read in part.
Uwazuruike stressed that the group is using non-violence approach and
nobody, not even the Inspector General Police, Solomon Arase, can ban
MASSOB in any part of Nigeria. “So, let no policeman, soldier, politician or any person try to
intimidate us. It is our inalienable right. Anything to the contrary by
the police is a state rumour and absurd,” the leader concluded.
Uwazuruike assured members of MASSOB that he would vigorously pursue
the agitation of self-determination, impact ideas and hold meetings
without interference from any person or people.

Suicide bombers have struck a mosque in Yemen’s capital in an attack
targeting Shia worshippers that killed at least 25 people and wounded
dozens, medics and witnesses said. Aljazeera reports:
There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Sanaa
has been shaken by a string of bombings by the Islamic State of Iraq and
the Levant (ISIL) group in recent months targeting Shia Muslims.
Thursday’s blast ripped through the Balili mosque where Houthi Shia
rebels who control Sanaa go to pray, according to witnesses.
It came as worshippers marked Eid al-Adha, the Feast of the
Sacrifice, the most important holiday of the Islamic calendar.
Witnesses reported that after a first blast inside the mosque, a second
suicide bomber detonated an explosives belt at the entrance as
worshippers rushed outside. ISIL, a Sunni Muslim group which controls
swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria, considers Shias to be heretics.
ISIL bomb attacks targeting several Shia mosques in Sanaa on March 21
killed 142 people. The group has also claimed attacks on mosques in
Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The capital of Sunni-majority Yemen has been
under the control of the Iran-backed Houthi rebels for the past year.
The Houthis have also expanded their grip to other parts of the country.
