Nigeria men’s basketball team D’Tigers
have made it to the qualifiers of the ongoing 2015 Africa Nations
Championship holding in Tunisia after defeating Mozambique 83-47 on
Wednesday August 26.
D’Tigers won all quarters of the match as the team hopes to win the championship to qualify for an Olympic ticket. Nigeria won the first quarter 29-11 and the second quarter 12-8. D’Tigers continued to dominate in the third quarter by winning 20-12 finishing the last quarter with 22-11 points.
Nigerian will face Gabon in the quarter-finals on Thursday. Gabon were underdogs going into their match against Cape Verde but won 77-67 with the help of substitute Therence Mayimba who came off the bench to lead the Gabonese with a team-best 17 points.
Mario Correia of Cape Verde finished with a game-high 23 points. Nigeria were defeated by Tunisia on Sunday in their group stage match.
The winner of the tournament in Tunisia will win the ticket to attend the Olympic games holding in Rome in 2016.
