Nigeria’s legendary striker, Nwankwo Kanu, has told his former boss what he needs to do to start winning trophies again.
The former Arsenal favourite, who enjoyed a good spell at the North London club, including two English Premier League trophies, made this disclosure in an interview with BBC World Service ahead of Arsenal’s stalemate with Liverpool on Monday, The Punch reports.
Asked whether Arsenal could lift the title this season in spite of their poor start to the league which has seen them pick up four points from a maximum nine, Kanu was positive still positive.
He said: “Yes. It’s all to do with belief and the heart the players have.”
The 39-year-old former Portsmouth forward also added: “When I played there we had a lot of leaders, captains. Every player was a captain. They have to have players who stand up and push the others.
“Arsenal is a big club, without a trophy it will be a let down. If they move in the right direction they will win the league. Why not?”
Kanu, who was a very popular figure at the Highbury stadium, won two league titles in his five and a half years with the club, the last of which was the Invincibles campaign and was a member of Arsenal’s more prominent figures that had the likes of David Seaman, Tony Adams, Martin Keown, and Lee Dixon, Patrick Vieira, Robert Pires and Thierry Henry.
The Arsenal legend was recently listed as the greatest Nigerian to ever play in the English Premier League.
