United got their pre-season tour off to a flyer with a 1-0 win over
America in the International champions cup which they won last season.
Van Gaal handed all his four summer signings, their debuts and one of them scored the only goal of the game as Morgan Scheiderlin got on the end of Juan Mata’s cross to loop a header past America’s goalkeeper to give Manchester United the lead. Manchester United had chances to extend their lead further but were very wasteful in front of goal. Van Gaal altered his entire squad for the second half but did not extend their lead any further.
Manchester United were relatively comfortable throughout the match.
