Ifeanyi Ubah Football Club has finally
addressed the sack and resignation reports concerning the club and
enstranged coach, Daniel Amokachi.
Club chairman, Chukwuma Ubah denied the report making rounds that Amokachi was sacked by the club or resigned from his position.
According to the club chairman, Chukwuma Ubah, Amokachi absconded after their week 28 match with Sharks FC, he also added that, Amokachi was not sacked and he did not tender an official letter of resignation.
Speaking before the Ifeanyi Ubah FC versus Kano Pillars match on Sunday, he said that he packed his belongings and left the club without speaking with anyone in the upper echelons of the club.
Speaking exclusively to Naij.com sports, Chukwuma Ubah said: “He didn’t resign, he wasn’t sacked per se. He actually absconded, he went on absence without leave, without letting the management know.
He said Amokachi has not put a call through to him or the president to give an update on his working status.
He said Amokachi refused to sit with the supporters club to discuss the running of the club which they had expressed sadness in.
He continued: “There is a process, there is a way to go about resignation; to call the management or the president to say ‘I am not working anymore’, but as I am talking to you no call has been put through to me, no letter. All I heard was he hurriedly came back from Port-Harcourt (after the match against Sharks), packed his things and he left.
“The driver is a living witness and he actually told me how he left.”
Speaking further, he said the club has up to six coaches and Amokachi’s absence does not mean the club does not have a head coach. The chairman said John Obuh who was in charge of first team affairs before Amokachi came on board will continue running the affairs in Amokachi’s absence.
He also clarified Amokachi’s stance at the club, he said: “Obuh is the technical director while Amokachi is the technical adviser so Obuh is the boss in terms of technicality in Ifeanyi Ubah.”
He also said club president, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah is pleased with how the team has performed in their first season in the Glo Premier League.
He said: “The President is pleased with the progress of the club. We are trying to build a lasting structure and this is the first season. We are actually doing so well in the first season. Any club we are going to play things twice before coming out.”
