Two people were on Saturday,
September 19, killed by a truck driver on a motorbike, along Bashorun
Adebisi Adesanya road, Sagamu local government secretariat.
An eyewitness, Comrade Ademola Adesanya, a.k.a Arsenal, who is the coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Sagamu local government told our correspondent that the woman was a known person to him and they both exchanged greetings while on the bike going home before the incident occurred.
He said, the deceased, Awakalitu Akeredolu, 32, was on a bike when a truck hit her from the back opposite The City Mall, few kilometres to her house and was rushed to the hospital before she finally gave up the ghost.
According to him, “Mummy Aisha just called and greeted us on a bike where we were at the junction and immediately they moved, the truck alighted and when we saw the way he was driving, we knew that something is definitely happened with the truck.
“Before we could say Jack Robbinson, the driver hit the Okada man from the back and had his head broken with blood littered the scene and the bike man died instantly while the woman was rushed to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
“When we got there around 7:13pm that night, it was another tragedy as we saw almost four people been taken in dead, also from okada. After much attention, the woman gave up the ghost at exactly 7:34pm.
“We can’t do anything than to bring her down home straight that sane night and she was buried yesterday (Sunday) morning at about 8:00am at her husband’s house located at Ibukun Ade street, off Bashorun Adebisi Adesanya road, Aiyepe way, Sagamu.”
When our correspondent visited the house on Sunday, deceased’s husband, Mufutau Akeredolu, a hunter, could not hold back his tear as he wept profusely, with his children joining in the crying.
Speaking on his behalf, his younger brother said: “We went to buy their rams for Ileya, we bought two big rams and on Saturday, my brother called me and asked me to take adequate care of the rams.
“My brother is a hunter and he was of the opinion that he may go hunting before the Ileya. Later that day, his wife, Mummy Aishat went to pay for the cloth to be used for the festival and surprisingly, when she was coming back and about few houses to their house, she was hit by a truck and that terminated her life.”
The truck driver, as gathered had ran to inform the police about the incident, but never informed them that he was the driver.
When the police arrived the scene, they were shocked to marrow to have been deceived by the driver, who has taken to his heel while the truck was taken to the station.
The deceased, a petty trader left behind four children, two boys and two girls, namely, Aishat, Toyib, Hikmat and Ibrahim.
Her remains had since been buried according to Islamic rites yesterday morning in Sagamu.
The disastrous incident comes just days after four policemen on night duty have been arrested in Lagos after one of them shot at a couple in a tricycle for refusing to give bribe.
