Why North East Vows To Produce PDP National Chairman

posted by Som Offor.

In line with a meeting held by the stakeholders of the Kaduna state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party to re-strategise ahead of the 2019 general elections, the North East zonal working committee of the party met in Gombe state to strengthen the party.
The state PDP members had reorganised themselves after the political setback the former ruling party suffered in the hands of the APC during the last general elections.
According to This Day report, the zonal publicity secretary of the party, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Al’amin at the end of the meeting on Friday, September 18, said that the meeting held under the zonal chairman, Senator Girgiri Lawan discussed the preparation of the zonal executive council meeting in which over 100 members would attend and it would be held before the National Convention of the Party.
The meeting ushered plans to recapture the lost states during the just concluded March 28 and April 11 2015 general elections back to the former ruling party.

Furthermore, the party saw the need to meet to chart the way forward and reiterate their commitment to PDP in order to ensure that the North East was allowed to produce a candidate that would contest for the seat of the national chairman of the party.
This was a move to guarantee the zone of the dire need to produce someone to take the place of the former national chairman who had resigned abruptly as a result of the heavy defeat the PDP had in the last polls.
Al’amin said that the seat of the national chairman belonged to North East constitutionally and going by the constitution any office which the officer on the seat died or resign from the party his deputy would hold it  in acting capacity for three month and the zone would be allowed to produce another candidate for the seat.

The party scribe said that the three months allowed by constitution to the person who held the office of the national chairman had however expired and that he was now in the fourth month.
He expressed optimism that the leaders of the party would allow the zone to produce next PDP national chairman even if it remained one week before the expiration of the tenure in 15th March 2016.
The PDP in Kaduna state has on another hand stressing that no member of the party from the constituency defected to the APC and that the chapter has no information as to who indicated interest to cross-carpet.
