An Islamic group, Jama’atul Nasril Islamk
(JNI) has condemned the spate of violence in Plateau state, describing
it as a fight aimed at Muslims.
In the past one month, the state has been hit with tragic event that have claimed the lives of hundreds of people and many more displaced.
Days ago, gunmen attacked a community in Mangu local government and killed about 19 people. They also burnt houses and looted shops.
Another attack which involved Fulani herdsmen in another village in the state left 20 persons dead with many people injured.
Senator Ben Bruce had in an article said Fulani attacks especially in Plateau state has left more people dead than Boko Haram attacks.
According to Daily Trust, JNI released a communiqué signed by the treasurer, Sani Bala in Jos on Thursday, September 17, the group condemned the attacks in adunu of Mangu LGA and some areas in Barkin Ladi LGA of the state. It also condemned the setting of religious centres on fire in an attacks carried out in Kadunu on Wednesday.
The Islamic group noted that renewed attacks in northern Plateau was an agenda targeted at Muslims considering that the communities are dominated by Muslims. The group accused Berom youths of being responsible and said it might result in reprisal attacks.
JNL called on security operatives to arrest the youths who were responsible for the violent attack in order to restore peace.
Inter religious attacks in Plateau state has been going on for a long time. Although, the attacks seemed to have reduced a year ago, renewed violence is been recorded in recent times.
