Ibrahim Idris, a 40-year-old man has been sentenced to death for killing a six-year-old girl after his attempt to rape her failed.
He was sentenced at the Bauchi state high court presided over by Yelim Bogoro after he had been charged by Dawud Yakubu who is the state director of public prosecutions.
He was charged with culpable homicide which is a crime contrary to section 221 of the state law.
According to Vanguard, Dawud informed the court that the accused intended to rape the girl, Asiya Mohammed, after calling her to his room.

DawudPRESENTED the knife and axe that was used to commit the crime as exhibits and also called five witnesses who testified that the accused made a confessional statement.

Justice Bogoro in her judgment said that the prosecutor had proved his case beyond any reasonableDOUBT.
