Diesel tanker falls close to Igbariam junction

Barely two weeks after a petrol tanker fire incident claimed many lives in the commercial city of Onitsha, another tanker loaded with diesel has fallen, a short distance after the Igbariam junction.

The Igbariam junction has a bus terminal where students of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam Campus, board vehicles to different destinations.

When the Anambrariansnews arrived the scene of the incident, men of the Nigerian Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps and National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas, NUPENG were on ground to ensure safety.

An official of the NUPENG, Engineer Nwachukwu Okoye, said on getting to the scene, he had to alert the police who dispersed the crowd which gathered trying to fetch the product.

He explained that efforts were being made to secure the scene, lift the tanker and dispose of its content without harm to passersby and road users.

An eyewitness, Mr. Uchenna Onwuzuligbo, who was already at his workplace, close to the scene, as at the time, narrated his experience, suspecting a break failure.

He informed that the ranker driver had been taken to an un disclosed hospital.
