A 38-year-old housewife Ternenge Tersoo has been sentenced to death by hanging for strangling to death her stepson.
Leadership reports that Justice Jennifer Ijohor, the judge of Makurdi high court, delivered the judgement on June 11, Thursday.
According to the judge, evidence before the court showed that the prosecution has proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
In 2012 the husband of the convict, Mr. Tersoo, reported to the police that his wife kidnapped the baby from his nanny and strangled him to death.
During the investigation, it was gathered that Mrs. Tersoo, the first wife of the husband, has never given birth. Therefore, he husband married a second wife, who gave birth to a baby boy within one year.
Mr Tersoo said that his first wife had complained that the little boy and his mother had taken over the affairs of the house and that the husband gave more attention to his new wife.
The police prosecution told the court that two witnesses and the investigating police officer confirmed the incident. However, when the case came up, the woman emotionally pleaded not guilty, testified for herself but did not call any witness to support her claim.
Judge Ijohor advised the women to look up to God instead of engaging in heinous acts. She directed that the woman be taken to the federal minimum prisons in Makurdi where she is awaiting death by hanging.
Earlier this year, a horrible tragedy happened in Otta, Ado-Odo local government area of Ogun state. On Children’s Day a woman identified as Funmilayo Adeyanju stabbed her 3-year-old son to death.
