Senate Presidency: Is Saraki Heading Back To The PDP?

The ongoing tussle for the leadership of the national House of Assembly has thrown open old sores waiting to be healed.
Senator Bukola Saraki’s high hopes of emerging as the Senate president were quashed when his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), opted for his main opponent, Senator Ahmed Lawan as its consensus candidate.

Sen. Bukola Saraki may be on his way back to the PDP

This move irked Saraki and his supporters, who boycotted a meeting of the APC leaders and, have been fuming about the move ever since.
Reports have now surfaced that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has adopted Saraki, a former member of the party, for the position of Senate president, while Yakubu Dogora is running against Femi Gbajabiamila for the speaker of the House, on the PDP platform.

This has thrown open a question which some observers had been nursing for years; whether Saraki’s initial defection to the APC was authentic or just for survival.
The election is billed to be held today and everyone is watching to see if Saraki’s emergence as the PDP candidate will mean his eventual return to the party he left before contesting the election as a senator.
