Killer Lightning: How Woman Died While Sweeping Church

Mrs Iyaji Yegwa, a 23-year-old lady was struck dead by lightning on June 6, Saturday while sweeping one of the Rhema Church branches at Okpoma, Yala local government area of Cross River state.
According to Vanguard report, the lady had gone with the pastor, simply identified as Simon to get the place ready for Sunday’s service.
While they were there, it started to rain and the pastor gave her his phone to hold while he went back to his house to remove the clothes he washed.
As the rain continued to pour, Pastor Simon could not make it back to the church and had to wait for it to stop. By the time he got to the church, he found Yegwa lying dead on the floor and raised an alarm.
In reaction to the incident, her relatives stormed the church and pulled it down, preventing them from holding service there on Sunday.

A source in the area, Tony said: “There was a lot of thunder and lightning during the brief rain fall and unfortunately, Mrs Yegwa was struck dead by one of those fierce lightnings that hit the church.”
Speaking on the matter, Mr. Hogan Bassey, the state police public relations officer said he had not received reports of the incident from the divisional police officer in the area.
A similar incident had occurred on May 27, Wednesday, children’s day. Three siblings were struck dead by lightning in Gure town, Kwara state. The ugly incident had occurred during a heavy downpour between 12 midnight on Tuesday and 1am on Wednesday.
