Nigeria’s contingent at the ongoing All
Africa Games in Congo Brazzaville have raked in more medals at the
quadrennial championship.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Nigerian team have displaced Algeria in the third position on the overall medals table.
With the new development, Team Nigeria now have 41 gold, 50 silver and 37 bronze medals, a total 128 medals while Algeria has 38 gold, 41 silver and 38 bronze, a total of 117 medals and are now in fourth.
Meaawhile, Egypt remain at the summit of the medals’ table and are being followed by South Africa in the second.
Nigeria’s extra medals came from wrestling (five) and athletics (three), as Nigeria are looking at finishing stronger to gain the edge over Algeria.
Athletics, wrestling, taekwondo, table tennis, tennis, powerlifting, basketball and handball are other events that present the Nigerians with opportunities of raking in more medals for the Nigerian contingent.
The Nigerian team at the ongoing competition have already made the country proud by smashing two world records, as the Championship draws to a close on Saturday, September 19, 2015.
