Deleon Alonso Smith, a young father, 19 years of age, was reportedly posing with a gun in his bedroom when it went off, striking him fatally.

Metro UK reports that friends and family gathered around the home of the deceased , in Texas following the accident.
Smith’s cousin told police the ill-fated photos were taken after Smith found the gun on Tuesday, September 1.
Deleon, father of two children, was due to start college this week.
His uncle who amid tears spoke to the press, said: “This is the worst time of my life”.

Selfies are self-portrait photograph, often taken with a camera phone held in the hand or supported by a selfie stick or sometimes with a digital camera, majorly for the purpose of sharing on social networking services such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
The act has been an issue of study for sometime and some studies prove that selfies have some relations with psychosis. However this has not deterred the vast majority that continue to indulge in the act. From movie stars to parliamentarians and presidents of nations, virtually all classes have been caught in its web.
There have been quite a number of reported cases in which persons taking selfies get in harms way.  According to Wikipedia, the recorded cases include:
A 17-year-0ld Russian amateur photographer who climbed atop a railway bridge in Saint Petersburg and ended up losing her balance, falling to her death after taking a selfie.
Another 14-year-old girl high school student in the Philippines fell to her death in July 2014, after losing her balance while taking a selfie of herself and a friend near the staircase landing of their school in suburban Pasig City. Medical reports said the girl sustained a sharp blow to the head from the fall and a rib had broken, piercing her kidney.

In August 2014,  a 14-year-old boy, also in the Philippines, accidentally shot himself while taking a selfie in which his other hand was holding a gun to his chin, luckily he survived with severe injuries. In the same month, a 21-year-old Mexican veterinarian who had been drinking, pointed a gun to his temple for a selfie and released a shot, killing himself.
Other cases include: a Romanian teenager who was electrocuted to death, in her attempt to take the “ultimate selfie”, posing with a friend on top of a train in the north-eastern Romanian city of IaČ™i when her leg touched a live wire above, sending an electrical surge of up to 27,000 volts through her body.
There was also the case of a Russian woman who in may 2015,  asked a security guard at her office to give her a 9-millimeter rubber-bullet pistol for taking a selfie and accidentally shot herself in the head sustaining heavy injuries. Still in Russia, a graduate of the Russian university, died after falling from a bridge while she was trying to take a memorable selfie next to Moscow City financial district, the incident happened in July, 2015.
Most governments have started making moves to curb the menace that selfies seem to be heading for, it is noted that in July 2015, the Russian Ministry of the Interior, released a “Selfie safety guide” that warns selfie enthusiasts about some common dangerous behaviors. This was released due to the increasing number of incidents in Russia where attempts to come up with a “cool” or daring selfie had led to injuries and deaths.
