APC Guber Primary Postponement Sparks Off Tension In Bayelsa

The All Progressives Congress governorship primary election for Bayelsa poll supposed to take place on Saturday, September 19, is said to have been postponed to Tuesday, September 22, at the instance of the Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, chairman of the committee set up by the national secretariat of the party.
The APC deputy publicity secretary, Timi Frank made this known in Abuja.
According to Daily Trust reports, the postponement of the governorship primary poll has however heightened tension among stakeholders of the party in the state.
There have however been strong indications that some delegates expected to cast their votes during the internal election have gone into hiding owing to the development which was informed by alleged threats and desperate scramble for votes by aspirants within the party, The Punch reports.

It was claimed that some loyalists to former governor of the state, Timipre Sylva had threatened the the delegates of the APC.
While some of the delegates alleged that the threat from the Sylva’s camp were allegedly being issued by known state party executives, others claimed other aspirants had made cash promises and better lodging before and after the primary election.
In line with that, the factional Chairman of the APC in the state, Chief Perekeme Kpodo had also expressed concern over what he called “doctoring of the delegates list for the APC guber primary election.”

He accused the party chairman, Tiwei Orunimighe of manipulating the list and compelling the delegates to vote for Sylva.
Expressing his worries, the spokesman of a Bayelsa group, Victory frontiers, Ayibanoh Gibson also stated that it was on good authority that the Sylva’s bloc within the APC resorted to threats and blackmail to cow the delegates.
He noted that the delegates were warned of dangerous consequences if they voted for new comers.
On another hand, there were also some reports that the leadership of the APC had summoned all its governorship aspirants to Abuja in a plot to ensure that Timi Alaibe emerged the party’s candidate for the governorship election slated for December 5.
