Eagles skipper Enyeama to miss Nations Cup qualifiers against Congo & South Africa

SUPER Eagles skipper Vincent Enyeama will miss
Nigeria's forthcoming two African Cup of Nations
qualifiers against Congo and South Africa this
weekend after asking to be exempted from camp for
family reasons.
This Saturday, on September 6, the Super Eagles face
Congo in Calabar and then four days later fly out to
Cape Town to engage Bafana Bafana as the 2015
African Nations Cup qualifiers begin. Head coach
Stephen Keshi has called up 23 players to prosecute
both games but Enyeama, who is now team captain
following the retirement of Joseph Yobo from
international football has asked to be left out.
Enyeama cited family commitments as the reason for
his withdrawal from the squad. He added that he had
already informed Super Eagles head coach, Stephen
Keshi of his decision.
"I spoke to the coach and explained to him why I
couldn't make it. I have some very pressing family
issues to attend to at this time and it's important for
me to be there with my family at this time."
"I've told the coach that I will be available in future.
However, this time, I need to be there for my family,"
Enyeama said.
Of the members of the current team, Enyeama is the
most capped having appeared for Nigeria 94 times at
senior level. This morning, the team held its first
training session at the Abraham Ordia Training
Pitch at the University of Calabar.
Conducted under the supervision of head coach,
Stephen Keshi and his lieutenants Daniel Amokachi,
Valere Houandinou and Ike Shorunmu, the session
will be followed up by daily ones between now and
Saturday. Subsequent training sessions will be held
at the UJ Esuene Stadium, the venue for Saturday's
match.
Meanwhile, it is not yet certain if Lazio midfielder,
Ogenyi Onazi will feature as he did not feature in his
club's first game of the season against AC Milan.
Onazi, who picked up a serious injury during the
World Cup, was not listed by Lazio Coach Stefano
Pioli in his 23 man squad for last Sunday's game
against AC Milan at the San Siro.
Onazi missed all Lazio's pre-season friendlies and
the last time he kicked a ball was on June 30 during
the World Cup second round loss to France. During
that game, Onazi got injured and despite claiming he
has recovered after surgery, he was omitted from
Lazio's pre-season training activities.
